BSM Desk Creation process

Noah and I made the side of one of the desks yesterday. At first we had a design that was more like a perfect L shape (Base width and Top width were the same). But the dimensions weren’t workin out, so we hiked up the base and thinned out the Top.

Here are the dimensions and the layout. We are going to add a couple supports, one in the Top, and probably 2 in the Base.

Today we made another side (flipped keystones so they are always on the outside) and we cut the connecting pieces between the sides. The surface area on the top will be 1′ x 3′2″ when we get this demo peice done. We need to talk about whether or not we want them to be collapsable. If they are not, it will be tough not to break them. I think for this first one, we’ll just nail it together to get an idea of what it looks like.

The wood is a 1″ molding and cost us $3 for 12 pieces. With all done now, we have used about 4 pieces.

Note that he is sitting on a stool. The height that they are right now is perfect for a stool, but comes up a bit high on a regular chair.

We’ll probably piece it together tomorrow before the feasts begin. Since we are putting the keystones and such on the outside, we will be able to put velcro on those as points of contact. This way, when we get into the new ship we will remove the other cardboard and slap on a new front.
